What is the prevalence of this condition?
This is very common (More than 3 million cases per year in US / or 10% of all kids will develop eczema)

  • Is the condition treatable ? Yes
  • A medical practitioner can help you.
  • Is a lab test or imaging necessary for diagnosis? Yes there is. An allergen is applied to a patch that is placed on the skin during a patch test. Your skin will become swollen and irritated if you are allergic to that allergen.
  • Eczema usually appears when babies are between 1 and 6 months old.
  • The time it takes to recuperate varies from infant to infant.
  • It can last a few years or it can last a lifetime.
  • 2 to 12 years old: Rash inside of elbows, back of knees, wrists, ankles, hands, feet, neck, and around the eyes and mouth
  • 13 years and older: Rash most likely on cheeks and face, forehead, head, and the outside of arms and legs. It’s more likely to return to some of the same areas.

What are the triggers of eczema? Oh lets find out!

No one knows the real cause of eczema. However, professionals believe there is some link in the following:

Your environment: Children from higher social groups, those who live in polluted cities, and those who live in colder climes are more prone to get eczema. Also if you have a family member who had it , or if you had asthma before you are at risk for eczema.

Here I will give you some clues to to know if your little star has eczema. Here we go!

Itchy, dry, rough, flaky, inflamed, and irritated skin is the most common symptom of eczema. It can erupt, subside, and then emerge once again or :

Bumpy, raised areas with very little bumps (filled with pus)
Patches that appear to be weeping (especially when infected)
As the body tries to recover, patches of yellow crust appear on flare-ups. Its effects are often worst at nights.

Eczema can affect any region of the body, however it most commonly affects the arms, inner elbows, backs of the knees, and head (particularly the cheeks and the scalp).

1. Homeopathic therapy

If you want to try homeopathy for your baby’s eczema, I strongly advise you to seek the advice and support of a homeopath who can offer tailored treatment. Some of the treatments they use are very effective:

Choose a strong coconut oil that is cold-pressed or virgin to use on your baby’s skin. Warm the coconut oil in your hands and apply it twice daily to your baby’s skin. 7. The famous oatmeal Bath

Try giving your baby a warm oatmeal bath a few days per week in addition to twice daily application of a topical treatment like coconut oil or shea butter.

While your infant is experiencing an eczema flare-up, an oatmeal bath can be a protective barrier to protect their skin. Oatmeal helps to seal a moisture protection on the skin, making it feel softer and smoother. In addition, it’s a natural cleanser that will bring more comfort to your little star. 8. The amazing breastmilk and or oatmeal bath

Yes breastmilk is another natural remedy you can use. You can use freshly pumped milk or refrigerated or frozen breast milk. If you are using frozen milk, take it out and let it thaw. You can thaw breast milk by running warm water over the bag/bottle. You can use one or both for skin protection.


  • Fill the baby’s bath tub with warm water if you’re bathing a newborn.
  • Slowly pour breast milk into the bath tub, depending on the amount of water.
  • Continue to add breast milk until the water becomes hazy.  There is no such thing as an incorrect measurement; you can add as much as you like and it will not hurt your little star.
  • Do not use your usual baby bath or soap. This would allow more of the breast milk or oatmeal to be absorbed into the skin.
  • Apply coconut, olive, oil or non-toxic baby lotion to lock in the moisture and prolong the benefits of the bath. This is an important step that you should not skip!
  • Strain the oatmeal and then use cotton muslin bags, fill the oatmeal powder in it and toss it inside the tub.

When to see a doctor for my child’s eczema?

Most moms go to doctors after seeing their child’s skin worsening. It is hard to see your child suffering and not try to get help. The above natural treatments can be used with your doctor’s treatment depending on the severity. It is advised to get your doctor’s dosage

Mama,  I am going to help you solve this common problem that so many women face during their pregnancy. I was a victim of constipation during pregnancy with each of my four pregnancies and tried these natural, very practical ways to solve this issue! Boy, I sure hope they work for you!

Remember everyone is different, so some might not work, but I really hope something is in this mix for you. Now as you may be aware there are many reasons why women become constipated during pregnancy. 

Additionally, it is important that I share this with you because you need to understand why pregnancy makes you a victim. No one wants to be a victim of constipation because it can bring a bigger problem like hemorrhoids! (Paid link here for urgent constipation remedies).

These are dilated blood vessels in the rectum that can become swollen, itchy,  and painful. Guess what Mama- to – be? I have nursed pregnant women who were afraid to push their babies out for fear that these swollen, painful vessels might rupture while they are pushing. 

I am often afraid for them as well. So always keep in mind that:

Prevention is better than cure

Here is what research says about it…..

  • In fact, up to 3 out of 4 women report experiencing at least one symptom of gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Pregnant women often adjust their diet to accommodate their developing fetus, which can lead to constipation, gas, bloating, and/or hemorrhoids) during pregnancy.
  • I certainly remember my constipation episodes during pregnancy. The thought of losing my baby if I push too hard, and the pain of getting it out  is nothing to play with! You may be thinking what on earth is responsible for  constipation. Let’s explore this together.

Reasons why constipation occurs during pregnancy?

1.As a result of iron supplementation

Increased iron from prescriptive supplements is one of the reasons for constipation in pregnant women.

2.Dietary changes:

Though constipation might be inconvenient, it can be readily alleviated with a few simple dietary and lifestyle adjustments, as well as a few basic home treatments.

 While some products provide rapid relief from constipation during pregnancy, others help you improve over time. You may need your care  provider to change your supplement to a different  iron brand like me.

3.Hormonal increase of progesterone!

Yes, absolutely! Progesterone levels begin to rise after an egg and sperm join, resulting in pregnancy. This increase in progesterone keeps the uterus lining in place, making it a good area for a baby to grow. 

Guess what  progesterone does?  It relaxes the muscles of the intestinal wall, making it less capable of passing waste through it, resulting in constipation.The digestive process slows down when progesterone production increases.

4. Your baby is growing steadily

Your growing little star will gradually increase pressure on your bowels, decreasing motility of the bowels.

5. Your gut also bacteria changes

As the pregnancy progresses, the gut bacteria begins to alter, and the amount of bacteria found in the gut decreases. (source).  

These changes assist the body in increasing blood sugar levels and fat deposition, both of which are crucial in supporting the baby as the pregnancy progresses. This has no added health hazards in a healthy mother, but evidence reveals that a decrease in intestinal bacteria.

6. You body naturally slows down

According to research, when we move less physically, our bowel movements become less often. Many pregnant women are less physically active and have greater constipation as a result of morning sickness or increased exhaustion.

A popular home treatment for constipation during pregnancy is this one. Flaxseed is abundant in dietary fibre which offers much needed roughage to your diet and it also includes omega-3S. Even with this remedy, you’ll need to drink at least 10 glasses of water. You might also want to use flaxseed oil.


2.Ispatula husks

In India, ispagula husks, also known as Isabgol, is a popular home remedy for constipation. Mucilage in ispagula husks absorbs liquids and adds bulk to the feces. You must drink at least 10 glasses of water every day if you choose this cure. If you have any heart problems or high blood pressure, however, you should avoid this therapy. This treatment must be prescribed by your doctor or healthcare provider.

3. Enjoy prune juice

One of the most effective remedies for constipation during pregnancy is prune juice. To relieve constipation and soften the stool, drink the juice 5 times a day. If the prune juice’s concentrated flavor is too strong, dilute it with a little water and add a slice of lemon to improve the flavor.

Most of the patients I have nursed use this very effective method . This is an old but very effective natural method.

4.Fruits are a powerhouse for constipation

Fruits, such as tangerine, strawberries, apples, lemons  are high in fibre and vitamin C. Constipation is caused by a lack of fiber in your everyday routine. Fruits are one of the most effective natural  constipation treatments you can use.

I can testify that the black current grapes worked wonders for me. 

 Every day, you should ingest roughly 30 grams of fiber. Grapefruits are very high in fiber and can be used to relieve constipation.

5. Add some lemons

Lemon is excellent for digestion and aids in the removal of toxins and unsettled food.  One lemon in a warm glass of water stimulates your senses of smell and taste while also inducing bowel spasms that aid in bowel movement.

 You may wish to dilute the concentrated juice with a small amount of water. This reduces the strength of the lemon and adds a small amount of liquid.

6.Massage your abdomen

Constipation is unavoidable throughout the first trimester of pregnancy, but you should not ignore it or it will become a more serious condition. Constipation can be relieved by gently massaging the stomach. It must be completed in a clockwise direction. If you are at risk of early labor or if your placenta is low lying, this remedy should be avoided. (Paid link for constipation remedies).

7. Reflexology

This is a natural treatment for a variety of illnesses. Pressure is administered to numerous distinct places in the limbs in this safe approach. The procedure is absolutely risk-free and all-natural. To relax and relieve the digestive system, enlist the support of a family member and gently rub the upper soles of the feet.

If you’re alone, you can relieve constipation by using the reflexology zones in your hand. Begin by rubbing the palm’s borders in a circular pattern, working your way up. Place a water bottle under the heels of your  feet and relax by rolling the bottle back and forth on the floor.

8. Acupuncture to the rescue

This traditional healing skill has been discovered to be quite useful in the treatment of constipation. Constipation, according to the healer or practitioner, is frequently caused by an energy obstruction. 

To break the block, locate the proper pressure point in the center of the abdomen. It’s around 5 centimeters below the navel. If you have a tendency to go into labor early, press this point for around 30 seconds and repeat throughout the day.

Please take note: when you’re nearing the end of your pregnancy, you should stop taking this cure. 


9. Use Stool softeners recommended by care provider

Remember Mamas, according to American Pregnancy Association, it is always best to try the natural methods of relieving constipation before deciding to take any medication. It has to be used productively. Chronic constipation can also be relieved with laxatives. The use of laxatives on a regular basis can result in a deformed and sluggish bowel. So try not to make it too often.

 Before you decide to use a laxative, you should always consult your doctor. These laxatives help moisten and soften the stool. (Examples: Colace, Dulcolax). These are considered safe during pregnancy.

Cabbage is a natural , wonderful remedy for constipation

Did you know cabbage is a natural laxative for pregnant women? You could either blanch it and eat it raw or stir cook it. 

Mama you can get creative and try out different recipes to make cabbage more appealing and palatable to you.

  • Castor oil
  • Aloe vera
  • Mineral oil

Many women if not all of them, who had the experience have found themselves becoming anxious as the day approaches. Ladies this is normal and human; especially if it is your first. Ladies and gentlemen I am here today to relieve all of your worries about getting an induction of labor. Preparation is key. As a midwife I had the awesome privilege of calming so many of my clients down.

Lets take this one step at a time. First of all I will clarify what an induction is and also give you everything you need to know about this topic and then we will discuss what you need to do to prepare.

What on earth is an induction of labor?

The purpose of labor induction, also known as going into labor, it is to initiate uterine contractions before natural labor begins in order to achieve a successful vaginal delivery. (Paid link here for good pregnancy books to read).

For a variety of medical and nonmedical reasons, healthcare provider may recommend inducing labor (elected is sometimes used when talking about induction).

At each prenatal checkup, a healthcare expert will assess your health and that of your baby. Examining your baby’s gestational age, size, weight, and location in your uterus are all part of this process.

Later consultations may entail examining your cervix and assessing the entire picture to see if you or the baby are at risk and a labor induction is required. Your care provider will need to assess your cervix for its softness to determine if it is ripe enough. Did you know there are some women who due dates pass them by with no signs of labor in view? A decision is then made to induce these persons.

Your cervix will be evaluated on the following:

  • Consistency (firmness)
  • Dilation (openness)
  • Effacement (thickness)
  • Position (which way is it angled)
  • Station (how low the baby’s head is in the pelvis)


  • Expected date of delivery has passed
  • Gestational diabetes.
  • Chorioamnionitis (an infection in the uterus).
  • Baby is growing too slowly.
  • Oligohydramnios (low or leaking amniotic fluid).
  • Placental obstruction or abruption.
  • Broken water, but no contractions.
  • History of speedy, short deliveries
  • Ay chronic condition like high blood pressure, and preeclampsia

Many of my clients are usually concerned with how long labor induction will take. Mamas I cannot give you a standard answer because every woman ‘s body is different with responding . Just like no labor is exactly the same and if this is your first just know that it could take longer.

Once the doctor inserts the small tablet, you can immediately begin to feel the cramps while some persons go longer for a day or two. Now lets learn about the interesting and different methods of induction

There are basically 5 types of induction. I will describe them below:

  1. Breaking the bag of waters using an amino hook in hospital or at home for home births. This procedure is very common in hospitals if your cervix is 3 or more centimeters dilated or open. It is is not usually painful and is similar to a vaginal exam. Breaking the amniotic sack also necessitates having a baby within a specified time frame, which varies depending on the conditions and the beliefs of your practitioner. It is preferable to combine amniotomy with other induction techniques.
  2. Pitocin induction: This is a synthetic form of the hormone oxytocin, which is produced by the body. It’s administered through an IV line and is used to induce contractions. The amount of Pitocin used will be determined by how well your body responds to it. The dosage is usually raised every 10-30 minutes until a healthy contraction pattern is established. This is sometimes done in conjunction with shattering the water bag.

It is better controlled because the medicine can be stopped by cutting off the IV line, it’s a little easier to control than, say, breaking the water. However, this does not guarantee that you will deliver your baby vaginally. It can be turned off or turned off completely to allow mum to relax or even go home. One of the good things about this type is the IV line is not attached. It can be used on its own. The less probable the induction will “fail,” the better your cervix is. It’s not nearly as messy as suppositories can be. It does not obligate you to have the child.

TAKE NOTE MAMA: Your care provider will allow you to pass your urine or eat before insertion. After it is inserted you will be given instructions not to get up out of bed for one hour to allow the tablet to properly absorb. I have seen many tablets dropped out because the clients ended up going to use the bathroom before an hour. So make sure you follow this instruction so you would not have to have a possible reinsertion.

The thing about this one is pitocin or other methods may be required in addition. It has the potential to hasten labor. This is no longer considered a viable strategy for mothers undergoing VBAC; speak with your practitioner about it.

5. Home births

There are several methods for inducing labor at home. They range from nipple stimulation and intercourse to taking herbs and substances like castor oil eating them. Always speak with your doctor about any method you prefer. Here are some of the common methods used for home births:

  • Certain foods (i.e. spicy foods, oily salads)
  • Bumpy car rides
  • Strenuous activity
  • Visualization
  • Castor oil
  • Certain herbs and homeopathics (black and blue cohosh, Caulophyllum

What are the risks involved?

Knowing the risks is your power tool in educating yourself

Mamas to be just like everything in life there are risks when it comes to inductions. Here are some of them I will share with you:

  • Contractions may become stronger, more painful, and more frequent.
  • According to a 2017 study Trusted Source, you may have a higher risk of postpartum depression.
  • You may require a cesarean delivery due to a failed induction (this comes with its own list of concerns, including a longer recovery time).
  • Infection. Certain methods of induction, such as rupturing membranes, pose an increased risk for infection in both mom and baby.
  • Uterine rupture. This is especially true for women who have had a cesarean delivery before or another uterine surgery.
  • Complications with fetal heart rate. Too many contractions can lead to negative changes in the baby’s heart rate.
  • Fetal death.

Throughout the induction process, your healthcare provider, doctor, or midwife will monitor you and your baby to determine whether or not an assisted vaginal delivery or cesarean delivery is necessary.

Now that you have been educated about inductions lets examine what else you have to do to prepare for it:

Preparing for the Labor Induction :

Making informed decisions is power!
  1. Have an open mind and stay positive in your thinking.
  2. Trust God to help you overcome anxiety and worry.
  3. Pack everything you will need for the hospital in advance. This includes your toiletries, snacks for afterwards, clothing for you and baby.
  4. Ask all the questions you need to ask. Here some of the most important ones:
  • Why do I need an induction?
  • What will the doctor or midwife do if the induction method chosen fails?
    When will you be released home and when will your induction be rescheduled?
    Will your doctor or midwife be present throughout the procedure?
  • Will you be able to use the restroom if the operation takes a long time?
  • Do you have any previous medical conditions or concerns that may affect your induction?
  • How many times has your doctor or midwife performed this procedure?
  • Will you be able to move around?
  • What are the risks and benefits of each induction procedure being considered?
  • Will it require constant or occasional monitoring?
  • Will it hurt? What are your options for pain relief?
  • What are the indicators that you’d be a good fit for induction?
    What types of inductions are being considered by your healthcare provider?
    When do you think you’ll be finished? (Make sure the induction is scheduled for after the 39th week of pregnancy.)
  • What is your cervix’s current state?
  • What is the position of the baby?

5. Find out where will the induction will take place.

6. Inquire if you can have a support person in.

7. You definitely would want to take your birth plan.

8. Find out from your care giver if you can eat before the induction. In the hospital where I worked our patients would come in the day before to begin the induction in the mornings. Some of the doctors would allow them to eat before, while others would not.

9. Be prepared for a possible intravenous infusion.

This is usually given with pitocin and some of the above methods.

10.Pray always knowing that God will deliver you through this journey.

Hello Mamas and dads to be. I want to teach you how you can minimize stretch marks during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a time of great changes. . Everything on the body seems to be growing at such an alarming rate in some cases. I want you to know that this is only a temporary process you are going through.

I think we all fear them, yet we’re told there’s nothing we can do to avoid them. It’s a hereditary thing some persons believe. Either you have them or you don’t. Though I don’t totally disagree with this remark, I am aware that stretch marks can be avoided. I remember when I had my kids, I always wondered how they would leave my skin looking. Women, are very concerned about their appearance and that is understandable.

Stretch marks are very common during pregnancy

Stretch marks are fairly prevalent during pregnancy. There is nothing that can be done to actively prevent them, as there is at other times in life. Stretch marks, on the other hand, usually dissolve with time, and there are a number of things you can do to lessen your chances of getting them. Watching your weight, eating healthily, exercising, and following other typical stretch mark prevention guidelines all apply during pregnancy, with some minor variations. According to the American Academy of Dermatology-About 90% of women will get them sometime after their sixth or seventh month of pregnancy.

Causes of stretch marks

During pregnancy the skin is stretched. There are several variables that influence their intensity, including your genetics and the degree of skin stress. Cortisol, a stress hormone, might also play a role. Elastic fibers in the skin are weakened by cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands.
When your body expands quicker than your skin can keep up, stretch marks appear.

1. Eat the right foods

There is no doubt the way we eat in general has a big impact on our skin’s suppleness. Eating a diet rich in collagen, including bone broths and gelatin, vitamin A, C, and E, and maintaining a proper omega 3:6 ratio are all important for skin suppleness. Eating grass-fed and free-range meats and eggs is an example of this. Drinking grass-fed cattle’s raw entire milk. Consuming organic and locally sourced produce. Cod liver oil that has been fermented is also highly helpful. This type of eating is beneficial not only for skin elasticity, but also for fertility and healthy infants.

  • Antioxidant-rich foods that nourish and protect the skin. Consume a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, such as spinach, blueberries, and strawberries.
  • Vitamin E-rich foods help to protect the membranes of skin cells. Nuts, seeds, avocados, broccoli, and collard greens are all good sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Vitamin A-rich foods are good for skin tissue healing. Carrots, sweet potatoes, mango, squash, and red bell peppers are all good sources of antioxidants. The saying that “you are what you eat” is a very true saying.

2. Gaining your weight slower is better

Stretch marks are more difficult to avoid when you gain weight quickly. Although weight gain is normally inevitable throughout pregnancy, it is very beneficial to gain it slowly and steadily. You can forget about eating for two while pregnant and stick to the rules for how many more calories you require. Avoid crash diets because they can shrink the skin suddenly.

3. Shea and coco butter the bomb!

Shea and cocoa butter are really the bomb when put together! They are two of the most effective emollients available. They excel at keeping the skin nourished and moisturized. Cocoa butter is a naturally occurring lipid derived from cocoa beans. Shea butter is manufactured from the karite tree’s kernel. The nuts’ shells are used to extract the fatty acids. These work by speeding up the skin’s natural renewal process by preventing and assisting in the reduction of stretch marks.

4.Keep your body flowing with fluids

Staying hydrated is another key to minimizing stretch marks that we hate. It is very important that you maintain a healthy level of hydration in your body. During pregnancy, your blood volume rises, and you create a large water bag to keep your baby safe. The need for water in your body has grown. For good skin suppleness, it’s also important to keep it moist. It is suggested that you drink 8 glasses of water every day. But, most importantly, pay attention to how you’re feeling. A dry mouth or throat is a problem and could be a sign of low water volume in your body.

5. Eat like you are eating for only one

Maintain a close eye on your weight growth during pregnancy. During pregnancy, you should gain weight slowly and steadily. Aim for a weight gain of 25 to 35 pounds throughout pregnancy. [43] The amount you gain will vary depending on your pre-pregnancy weight and other circumstances, so talk to your doctor about how much you may anticipate to gain.
When you’re pregnant, don’t believe the myth that you’re “eating for two.”

Guess what Moms and dads to be during the second and third trimesters, physicians often recommend consuming 300 calories more than usual. To maintain skin health, you should continue to eat foods high in vitamins E, C, B2, and B3, as well as zinc and dietary silica (as described above). In addition, your doctor may recommend that you take a daily multivitamin to ensure that you get enough of the nutrients you need.

6. Moisturize your skin

  • Avoid exercises which can cause injury, including: horseback riding, contact sports (football, basketball, etc.), hopping, jumping, skipping, bouncing, or running, and sit-ups.

2. Choose a cool spot

It’s important to exercise in a safe atmosphere. Avoid exercising in hot and humid conditions to avoid pain and potential health risks. Hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms should also be avoided. You should be able to breathe properly when exercising while pregnant and in a cool spot.

3. Wear comfortable clothing

Exercise attire should be proper. For exercise, loose-fitting comfortable clothing and a suitable support bra are advised. Footwear should always be comfortable and well-fitting, regardless of the activity.

4. Schedule a regular routine

Maintain a regular workout schedule. Before commencing the activity, warm up and stretch for five minutes. Then do 15 minutes of cardio/aerobic activity, followed by 5 to 10 minutes of less difficult exercise. Finish by stretching once more.
Remember exercising for more than 45 minutes at a time is not recommended.
Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout, and wait at least an hour after eating to exercise.

8.Use coconut oil

Coconut oil’s potential to moisturize skin has been recognized for millennia (particularly in the tropics).  It   is high in saturated fatty acids, with the majority of them being medium chain fatty acids. Because these fatty acids are difficult to oxidize, as they do not generate damaging cell damage.

Did you know polyunsaturated fatty acids, on the other hand, are more quickly oxidized and hence more prone to cause skin damage from free radicals? This is true not just for the oils we apply to our skin, but also for the oils we eat. We have shifted our dietary oils, which is one of the reasons we have so many skin issues in the US (among other things).

Saturated fats were the mainstay of our predecessors’ diets, but today more unsaturated and transfats are consumed. I encourage you to read labels to know the amount of nutrients are in the foods you want to consume; especially carbs and sugars.

9. Use sun screen

You can block the sun’s damage from your skin by using some sun screen.

There is a condition that is transmitted through food or drinking water called Travelers’ diarrhea . The dehydration caused by diarrhea can be more of a problem for pregnant women than for others. There are other bacteria and viruses spread by food or water can lead to more severe illnesses that can cause problems for a pregnant woman and her baby. Beware of eating uncooked meat and fish as these can be cooked infected .Therefore, if you are traveling in a developing country I recommend you carefully follow food and water safety procedures:

  • Choose food that is cooked and served very hot.
  • Avoid cold food or food that has been sitting at room temperature e.g. buffet
  • Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat or fish.
  • Choose fresh fruits and vegetables only if you can peel them or wash them in clean water.
  • Eat only pasteurized dairy products.
  • Drink only liquids that are canned or bottled and sealed. Carbonated is safer because the bubbles indicate that it was sealed at the factory).
  • Remember do not drink anything with ice due to the possibility of infected water used to make it .

If travelers’ diarrhea, is contracted by you, drink lots of fluids until it leaves. Take all medications as prescribed by your health care provider. Continue to drink after each episode of diarrhea. Do not take products containing bismuth, such as Pepto-Bismol or Kaopectate. These medicines can be dangerous for pregnancy. Check labels on packages to ensure that you are safe.

  • Wear your seat belt at all times. The belt should sit low on your hip bones, below your belly. 
  • Plan to make frequent stops. Use these stops to move around and stretch your legs.
